Musical characteristics of Thrash Metal include high speed, percussive, aggressive, and low-register guitar arrangements complemented by virtuosic solo-like lead work. Lyrically, Thrash Metal bands usually critique society and talk about social issues with blunt language.
Thrash Metal was started in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Bands began incorporating the new ideas of British Heavy Metal music, and create a new movement. It was pioneered by bands like Slayer, Megadeth, Metallica, and Anthrax. Anthrax, a New York City band and others during its initial debut, influenced the spread of Thrash Metal to Long Island. The most famous Thrash Metal band, Vision of Disorder or V.O.D. spearheaded the Long Island thrash metal and metalcore scene and would later inspire bands like Glassjaw.
